Why is the tide so high?
The Bay of Fundy has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world. There is an average vertical rise and fall of 26 feet between tides. 3680 billion cubic feet of water pour into the funnel shaped Bay of Fundy each day. When this great volume of water enters the funnel shaped bay, it is progressively squeezed into a smaller and smaller space as it travels up the bay into the Minas and Annapolis Basins. This causes the dramatic rise and fall of the tide along the shoreline of the entire Bay of Fundy.

Who is Evangeline?
"The epic poem Evangeline was composed by the American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, to commemorate the expulsion of Nova Scotia's French-speaking Acadian settlers in 1755. The poem evokes the tragedy of people separated from their loved ones as Evangeline was separated from her betrothed, Gabriel, never to find him 'till the day he lay dying".

A Brief History
The Mi'Kmaqs greeted Samuel de Champlain and the French upon their arrival to the shores of the Annapolis basin in 1605. They assisted the French in establishing the settlement of Port Royal. For 150 years the French and English battled over the settlement. Finally in 1710, the English captured it for the last time. In an effort to dominate the entire region, the British ruthlessly deported the Acadians in 1755.
